Solar Rebates & Calculator WA
Government rebates can take a significant amount off the upfront cost of solar in WA, but understanding what you’re actually eligible for isn’t always straightforward. There are two separate solar rebates in WA available to homeowners, and the savings from combining them can be substantial.
At iBreeze, we’re a Mandurah-based solar installer that manages the entire rebate process on your behalf. Use the calculator below to estimate your savings, or speak with our team for a quote that shows exactly what applies to your home.

What Solar Rebates are Available in WA?
Two separate solar rebates in WA are available for homeowners in the state.
The federal STC rebate applies to solar panel installations across Australia. It reduces the purchase price of your system as an upfront discount: applied by the installer at the point of sale, not paid as a tax return or government cheque. The calculator below estimates the value based on your system size and installation timing.
The WA Residential Battery Scheme is a state government initiative providing additional rebates for home battery storage, on top of the federal support. The two schemes can be combined, which significantly increases the total savings available.

Rebate figures are based on program rules current at the time this calculator was built. The Australian Government may change eligibility criteria, STC factors, or battery tier thresholds without notice. Always verify the latest terms at the official source before committing to a purchase: dcceew.gov.au — Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program delivers an upfront discount of approximately 30% on eligible home battery systems. The discount is funded through Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) — the same mechanism that has subsidised solar panels for over a decade.
From 1 May 2026, battery storage systems are formally added to the STC scheme alongside solar. iBreeze combines both rebates into a single upfront discount on your quote — you see the saving before you sign anything, and you never handle any paperwork.

What are STCs?
Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are tradeable certificates issued by the Clean Energy Regulator. Each certificate has a market-set spot price, typically around $35–$40.
The number of STCs your system creates depends on three things:
- System size — kilowatts (kW) for solar, kilowatt-hours (kWh) for battery
- Zone rating — Mandurah sits in Zone 3 (WA), rated 1.382
- STC factor — a number that steps down every 6–12 months as the scheme winds to zero by end of 2030
Solar formula: STCs = round(system kW × 1.382 × STC factor)
Your rebate = number of STCs × current STC spot price
Two separate rebates — combined into one
Solar panels and battery storage each attract their own STC rebate, calculated independently and then combined into a single upfront discount. The solar rebate is based on the system's rated output in kilowatts (kW). The battery rebate is based on the battery's usable energy capacity in kilowatt-hours (kWh), using a tiered structure from May 2026 onwards.
Battery rebate tiers (from 1 May 2026)
The battery rebate uses a tapered structure that favours smaller residential systems:
| Usable capacity band | STC multiplier | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 14 kWh | 100% | Full rate on the first 14 kWh |
| 14 – 28 kWh | 60% | 60% rate on this portion |
| 28 – 50 kWh | 15% | Minimal rate on larger systems |
During Jan–Apr 2026, battery STCs use a flat calculation (kWh × STC factor) with no tiers. The tiered rules begin 1 May 2026.
STC factor schedule 2026–2030
The STC factor drops on a fixed government schedule. The later you install, the smaller your rebate. Once the scheme ends, the rebate disappears entirely.
| Period | STC factor | Drop vs previous |

Mandurah zone rating
Mandurah and the Peel region sit in Zone 3 under the STC scheme, with a zone rating of 1.382. This reflects the area's excellent solar irradiance and is the multiplier used in all STC calculations for iBreeze customers.
Stacking with other incentives
The federal STC rebate stacks with eligible Western Australian state-level incentives. iBreeze also works with the Home Energy Upgrade Finance (HEUF) scheme, which provides low-interest finance for eligible solar and battery installations — so you may be able to pay nothing upfront and let your energy savings cover the repayments.

How the Federal STC Solar Rebate Works
Small-scale Technology Certificates are created when an eligible solar system is installed. The number of certificates depends on system size, location, and the years remaining in the scheme. As an accredited installer, iBreeze creates and assigns those certificates on your behalf — the value is applied directly as a discount on your quote.
Mandurah sits in Zone 3, one of the highest-performing solar zones in Australia, which means local systems generate more certificates than equivalent systems in other parts of the country.
The scheme steps down each January and closes on 31 December 2030. Systems installed sooner are eligible for a higher certificate value, so timing affects the total savings.
The rebate applies to most residential and small commercial properties with a system under 100kW, installed by an accredited installer and connected to the grid. The calculator automatically reflects the current rate.

WA Battery Rebate for Home Battery Storage
The WA Residential Battery Scheme sits on top of the federal rebate, adding a state government subsidy specifically for households adding battery storage. It works alongside the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program; both are accessible to eligible households, and the combined savings can be substantial.
Synergy customers are eligible for $130 per kWh of battery capacity, up to $1,300. Horizon Power customers receive $380 per kWh, up to $3,800. A 10kWh battery, the most common residential size, reaches the full rebate amount under both networks.
Households with a combined annual income under $210,000 can also access an interest-free loan of up to $10,000, repayable over 10 years. This can cover the battery, inverter upgrades, and any additional solar panels installed at the same time.
To access the scheme, households need to join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programme: Battery Rewards for Synergy customers, Community Wave for Horizon Power. Your battery shares stored energy with the grid during peak periods, and you receive payments for what’s exported.
We cover eligibility and VPP requirements as part of every quote, so you have a clear picture before committing to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Two schemes apply. The federal STC rebate reduces the upfront cost of a solar panel installation and is delivered as a direct discount by the installer at the point of sale. The WA Residential Battery Scheme provides a separate state-level rebate for home battery storage, on top of the federal support. Both are available to qualifying WA homeowners.
The WA Residential Battery Scheme provides $130 per kWh for Synergy customers, up to $1,300, and $380 per kWh for Horizon Power customers, up to $3,800. Households with a combined income under $210,000 can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to $10,000, repayable over 10 years, to cover battery, inverter, and panel costs.
The federal STC scheme runs until 31 December 2030 and steps down each January. Systems installed sooner receive a higher certificate value, so the timing of your install affects the total savings available.
The federal STC rebate applies to new solar installations only. If you’re adding a battery to an existing system, the WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate may still apply, depending on your network provider and VPP eligibility. iBreeze can confirm what’s available for your property during the quoting process.
No. As an accredited installer, iBreeze manages the entire process. The rebate is calculated and applied as a direct discount on your quote; there’s nothing to lodge, claim, or follow up after installation.
